How to turn a Bad Day into a Good Day

We've all experienced those days when everything seems to go wrong. Wether it’s one thing that goes wrong or lots of little things that push you over the edge. Low mood can be crippling, trust me I know…

The weight of negativity feels almost insurmountable. It's easy to get caught up in a spiral of negative thoughts, but what if there was a way to turn things around and make your day better?

1.Understanding your thoughts are not fact. A thought is only as powerful as you let it be. Let the thoughts come into your mind and let them go if they are negative by replacing them with a positive thought. You can practice this skill with meditation.

2. Movement, Music and… Singing (even if you can’t sing). Put your happy playlist on, yes I know you want to put the sad songs on but DON’T DO IT and mmooovve and siiinnggg and shoouuutt. I’d highly recommend a kitchen disco party for 20 minutes.

3. Break the cycle of the bad day by yelling or writing “STOP”. Then create a mental picture or write a list of where you want to be. Make choices that align with this picture. This will help you make decisions based on your values rather than emotions.

4. Focus on what you want to feel rather than what you don't want to feel. Envision the signs that indicate you're feeling better, what you would say yes or no to, where you'd direct your attention and energy, and how you'd interact with others. This shift in focus from the problem to the solution can be transformative.

5. Call a friend. Share your bad day with someone. Sometimes having someone to offload on can be super helpful as they can serve as a mirror for you. Human connection can really snap you out of a low mood. One minute you’re having a sh*t day the next you’re laughing with a friend.

WithEmily tip: If you can’t face talking to a friend call a counsellor for support.
